11.1v Airsoft Battery

What is a 11.1v Airsoft Battery?11.1 Volt Airsoft Batteries are usually a Lithium Polymer, also known as LiPo (most common) or a Lithium Ion or commonly referred to as a LiIon. These batteries have cells that have a voltage of 3.7 Volts (V) per cell. You will notice these batteries will be in increments of 3.7V with the most popular Airsoft LiPo battery pack voltages being 7.4V and 11.1V. Battery voltages above and beyond those that I just listed, but again the most common and best voltages for the majority of Airsoft Electric Guns (AEG). Going with a voltage that is more or less than 7.4v or 11.1v can either not be powerful enough to power your gun or can be too powerful for your Airsoft Gun. If the battery is not powerful enough to power your Airsoft Gun, then your gun could either blow/burn out your fuse, or if you do not have a fuse it can burn out your AEGs electrical trigger switch. If your gun has a basic Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field-effect transistor (MOSFET) wired into your existing trigger switch, it could be damaged as well. Damage to the things I just listed comes from the increased Amperage draw due to the lower voltage. On the opposite end of this, if you are using higher voltages, you are going to experience increased wear on your Airsoft Guns Internal Gearbox Parts. This will make your airsoft gun require maintenance at more frequent intervals. If you go with an even higher voltage say closer to 24v you will likely experience immediate piston or gear failure. The motor will generate too much torque instantaneously and usually results in damage to your gun’s piston or gearsets teeth.

As long as you keep your Lithium Airsoft Gun Battery voltage conservative, you will not have any problems and your Airsoft gun doesn’t need to be “LiPo Ready”. One of the two biggest things to remember is that going with a higher voltage and increasing your gun’s rate of fire, is just like making a race car. Race cars go fast, but require more maintenance than your family sedan. The other is that Lithium Airsoft batteries are EXTREMELY SENSITIVE to Charging and Discharging. You need to be ABSOLUTELY SURE that you are using a Lithium Battery charger that is correct for your type of Lithium Battery. If you are using a LiPo, make sure your charger specifically says LiPo on one of the settings. You will also notice Lithium Airsoft Gun Batteries have two plugs coming off of them. A 2 wire Positive and Negative lead and a 3 or 4 wire Balancing lead. Your charger HAS to have at least a way to connect your balancing lead to the charger. If your charger does not have the means to plug in your balancing plug, DO NOT use that charger and refer to the charger’s instruction manual. Charging a Lithium battery with the incorrect charger IS EXTREMELY dangerous. As for discharging, do not ever shoot your Lithium Airsoft Gun Battery down until it is almost dead. If you hear your Electric Airsoft Gun starting to slow down on the cyclic rate in full or semi-automatic fire, STOP SHOOTING IMMEDIATELY. Shooting the battery even 1 shot more can cause your battery to become over-discharged and your battery will be damaged.
